We all know Vitamins A, B, C and D but skip a few letters in the alphabet and you land at K (there isn’t any vitamin F, G etc. FYI). Vitamin K though like most vitamins has little substitutes that come off the bench –K1, K2 & K3.
Why you need Vit K?
It’s mostly overlooked in health check ups this vitamin is essential in fat absorption and playing a role in balancing all our hormones. Can’t stop bleeding once you’ve knicked yourself? Vit K is one of the most important vitamins for blood clotting, reducing bruising and building strong bones.
Where to load up on it..
K1 is found in leafy green veggies like kale, broccoli and herbs like parsley. K2 is actually made in your digestive system by the good bacteria that line your gut but can also be found in fermented foods – think miso, kimchi, yoghurt.
By loading up not only are you helping balance your hormones in your body, you’ll also hitting your body with a massive dose of antioxidants to help fight free radicals – those nasties that throw your body and health out of whack the more they build up.
