London guide | The healthy way with Madeleine Shaw

Celeb health coach, nutritionist and yogi Mad Shaw has an infectious, kind and gentile personality you just want to be around. Introduced to this London beauty through friends we’ve been watching her rise and rise over recent years kicking some serious goals. When needing to know where to hit up in London – the healthiest hot spots and where to break a sweat there was only one person to get the London lowdown.

1 Who is Madz Shaw!?

Hello! I’m Madeleine Shaw. I’m a nutritional health coach, yoga teacher and healthy chef who encourages people to enliven the hottest, happiest and healthiest you! I live in London but I lived in Sydney for three years where I went to uni. It was in Australia that I began to learn the importance of a healthy diet and happy life. I enrolled on an online nutrition course, set up my blog and moved back to London and haven’t stopped since. I’ve got two recipe books: Get the Glow and Ready Steady Glow and my app, Glow Guides is your pocket personal trainer, nutritionist and life coach all in the app.


2 Where would we find you working out in London?

Yoga Method movement is the new kid on the block but it’s also a great yoga studio. Plus they have insta worthy wall prints you can pose with after finding your zen at one of their classes.

Spin Psycle for sure. It’s more like a night club than a spin class and the awesome music will power you through a sweaty workout.

Strength training – I love Evolve 353. The boys who run it are dedicated and awesome. I love their sculpt class which uses TRX, kettlebells, dumbbells, gymnastic rings, slam balls and your bodyweight to sculpt that beautiful body of yours.


3 After a serious sweat sesh. Where is your favourite brekkie spot to refuel?

My boyfriend owns a restaurant called Boma near Fulham and they do the best brunch. I’m always here after a sweat session to pack in some protein.

 


4 Favourite health food/groceries store to restock your pantry?

Planet Organic is one of the UK’s answer to Wholefoods (although we have lots of Wholefoods in London now too) but Planet Organic is my local. They have a great selection of fresh organic veg and meat, plus lots of tasty pastries, fresh smoothies and cold pressed juices. They also have big natural beauty section which I could spend hours in!

 


5 Our days are usually jam packed, do you have a favourite spot in London you go to take some time out and just chill?

It’s not one favourite spot, but I do like walking by the Thames. It’s a short walk into central London from where I live by the river, and when I want some time out I’ll go and clear my head by the river with some fresh air.

 


6 For any of our readers who are heading to London soon. Do you have a must go Lunch spot? One healthy and a must go and spoil yourself (We are all about balance!)

Spring in Covent Garden is definitely a great place for a special occasion. The food is really fresh and changes with the season. Farmacy in Notting Hill is a new favourite of mine. It’s a plant based cafe that has the most awesome menu that even meat eaters would want to eat there.

 


7. London has some beautiful parks. Where is your favourite park and why?

I love Hyde park. Most Londoners probably say this but it’s like a tranquil zone in the middle of a concrete jungle. It’s very big and will make you feel like you’re not even in London. Surrounded by trees, long stretches of green grass and of course the Serpentine, a visit to London isn’t complete without a trip to Hyde Park.


8. Someone who has not been to London before. What area would you recommend to stay?

Shoreditch is great if you’re looking for something super trendy. If you’re looking to stay somewhere with good shopping and well connected to other areas, I would definitely say Chelsea or Kensington is going to be your best bet.


9. Favourite country town out of London for a weekend away?

I love the Cotswolds. There’s something so peaceful about escaping London and heading to the quiet countryside. There are plenty of awesome hotels to stay in like Thyme – I loved it there and they have their own chickens!


10. Dinner and cocktails!!?

Dinner and cocktails again at my boyfriend’s restaurant. They’ve just opened up by the river in Putney a new restaurant called Boma Bridge. They serve awesome cocktails, incredibly flavoursome food and all in a relaxed setting.
