Hands up if you were one of those people who steered clear of fats because you thought they would make you fat? No sh!t so did we. Diving more into nutrition you understand why fats are so important for a healthy body and healthy hormones. The old saying eat fat to burn fat has actually started to click and yes you do feel fuller, have more energy, your skin looks better and you actually don’t put on weight.

Here are our top 6 fats we’ve added into our diets of late and can feel the difference in our body.

Brain octane/ MCT oil 

Coffee with butter and oil who would of thought you were so delicious and made us so productive. These oils aren’t your usual oils though. They are a combination of isolated medium-chain triglycerides 18 times more potent than coconut oil. LA health guru and owner of Eat Dessert Burn Fat Crosby Tailor says, “Unlike other fats, MCT oil does not go through the lymphatic system. Instead, it is transported directly to the liver where it is metabolised, so it releases energy like a carbohydrate and creates lots of ketones (which can be used for fuel) in the process. The metabolic affect of using more fat as energy, as opposed to carbohydrates, is that you’ll eventually turn your body into a fat burning machine.”


Just like MCT oil we now through a dash of butter into our coffee. Not just ordinary butter – grass fed butter. Why? It’s loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin K2 which helps the body metabolise calcium helping prevent osteoporosis and inflammatory problems in the body. Adding the fat satisfies your ghrelin (one hormone that controls hunger) and keeps you full until your next meal – don’t be afraid to add fat because this hormone won’t be switched off until it’s satisfied.


Avocado is one of our favourite fats to add to any meal – breaky – smashed avo on toast, dinner can be bowls topped off with avocado or home made burgers with guac. Fact that Aussies consume more avocados per capita then any other country in the world and why not they are loaded with health benefits Vitamin K, potassium, fibre the list goes on. But again having these fats satisfy the hormones in your body and also the bacteria in your gut (we love gut health at TL HQ) .


Probably not loaded with health benefits compared to the previous fats but throwing fats in like haloumi and other cheeses in to your meals is all about a healthy balanced approach to food. It satisfies and keeps us full until our next meal and when you’re satisfied you are more productive with work and more present in life – you’re not having a conversation with someone thinking – what will I cook for dinner or is it time for my snack yet?

Macadamia Nuts

All nuts are delicious and loaded with health benefits but there’s something satisfying about the creamy texture of macadamias. One of the most calorie dense nuts out there but loaded with vitamin A, iron and thiamin the oily fats in these nuts will switch off any hunger hormones keeping you satisfied and fuller for longer. Throw them on your yoghurt bowl or throw them in your salad at dinner for some crunch.


Don’t be afraid to add fats into your diet. Have eggs for breakfast and order a side of haloumi – you will be satisfied and your hormones will thank you.
